“Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the
swallow a nest for herself,
where she
may have her young—”
Psalm 84: 3a
Sparrows must have been plentiful in bible times.
Perhaps, they were even viewed as a nuisance.
In an agrarian culture they may have been despised for
stealing seed or causing other chaos with the crops.
They may be why the Psalmist declared – even
the sparrow.
His exception may imply disdain.
Still, the sparrow found a home in God’s creation.
Jesus said:
“Are not five sparrows sold
for two pennies?
Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all
numbered.
Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many
sparrows.”
Luke 12:6-7
Have you ever felt forgotten by God?
I don’t know how much reasoning capacity a sparrow has
but even if it could feel forgotten by God, Jesus reassures us not
one ever is;
how much more so His beloved sons and daughters.
God values the sparrows, how much more does He value
you!
Make your home in His presence.
There He will whisper to you of His love for you and
of your value to Him.
