“At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a
hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. Still, many in the crowd
believed in him. They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs
than this man?”
John 7:30-31
They say you should never talk religion or politics in
certain places or at certain times.
The reason for that is that those topics can be divisive.
Our scripture
today reveals that Jesus, by His presence, by His words and by His actions was
also divisive.
He did not come to divide but when people, then or
now, are confronted by Jesus they are forced to make a decision.
Will they be those who tried to seize Him or those who
believed Him?
The same is true today.
Will you be one who determines to reject Jesus and
remove Him from your life?
Or will you be one who believes in Him?
Jesus walks on the earth today through you and me if
we are His followers.
When you allow
your light to shine but are rejected for it, remember that it is Him that is
being rejected and not you!
How should you respond?
Love them.
Rejection is painful.
Yet Jesus showed us How to love even through the rejection
of others.
Don’t lash out.
Don’t get even.
Don’t even meditate on a slam or put down.
Instead, love.
