“Create in me a
pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10
“Now sweepers,
sweepers
man your brooms
Give the ship a
clean sweep
both fore and
aft.
Sweep all lower
decks, ladder backs and passageways.
…Now sweepers…”
If you ever
served in the US Navy you may recognize that twice daily call for a clean sweep
of the entire ship.
On board ship
space is at a premium and so there was no tolerance for the accumulation of
clutter or dirt.
For different reasons
but far more importantly we must keep our hearts clean.
We should ask
God to cleanse our heart when we have allowed the pollutants of the world to
contaminate it.
Sin can be like artery
clogging plaque.
The longer we
neglect dealing with it the greater the buildup of it in our heart and the
easier it becomes for us to go on our way without seeking Gods’ cleansing work.
Little-by-little
it closes of the flow of Gods’ voice into our spirit and before you know it we have
turned away from serving Him.
Let the Spirit
of God come in and sweep away the accumulation of dirt that ought not to be
there.
Not just twice a
day but as often as is needed to maintain a clean heart before Him.
“If we confess
our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive
us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness.”
I John 1:9
