“Words kill,
words give life;
they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”
Proverbs 18:21
Your words have
an enormous impact on your life.
Perhaps the most
significant portion of the passage from the Book of Proverbs quoted above are
the two words “…you choose…”
You see, every
word that you speak has power and purpose so it is essential that we choose our
words carefully.
Some people
never stop to think about the words they are speaking unless they have been
asked to prepare a toast or a eulogy.
Somehow the
thought of a crowd ‘listening in’ has the effect of causing us to more cautiously
choose our words.
Its’ too bad
that we don’t realize that our very own future
can be shaped by
the words we speak.
When facing a
struggle – as we all do at different points in our lives – I can choose words
of fear, doubt, defamation and death or I can choose, express and declare words
of faith, hope, affirmation and life.
The words of
death dig a hole I bury myself in while the words
of life build a
ladder of faith to rise above the struggle.
Which would you
choose?
Am I suggesting
that we speak contrary to the ‘facts’ when our circumstances look bleak?
No sir!
But sometimes
God’s truth is different than the
‘facts’ and
circumstances we find ourselves in.
When that’s the
case, choose to speak in agreement with the truth of Gods ‘words!
I know how often
we see the words “Choose Life” and immediately
think of the issue of abortion; but we also must consider the life or
death we ‘choose’ by our words every time we open our mouth and speak.
Choose Life!
