“Then Jesus was led
by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”
Matthew 4:1
Do you have any
trouble at all with the sentence above?
Most of us do, even
when we don’t admit it.
For instance…
“Then Jesus was led...”
STOP RIGHT THERE.
Most of us don’t like
to be led.
We want to lead.
Even when no one else
is inclined to follow us!
It isn’t often framed
this way but Jesus was a follower.
Sure He was.
We just read it – He
followed the Spirit of God.
He followed His
Father.
He knew what it was
to be a leader but He also knew what it was to be a follower.
He trusted the
leading of His Father.
He trusted the
leading of the Holy Spirit.
There is an old hymn
of the church and the words of the chorus declare in part:
Where He Leads me I
will follow.
Jesus learned to follow
His Father.
He is a trustworthy
leader.
Will you follow where
He leads you?
Do you trust Him to
take you through?
We were given a
homework assignment of reading Matthew Chapters 4-7 each day for the next 40
days.
I believe God is
leading us into the teachings the scriptures have for us there.
Where He leads, will
you follow?
