“But because of his
great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, "
Ephesians 2:4
Does God love the
sinner?
“Yes, of course He
does.”
We are always quick
to add the disclaimer though – “But He doesn’t love their sin!”
No He doesn’t.
Just as He doesn’t
love the sin in His children, those of us who are saved.
Now remind yourself
of what you are saved from.
We have been saved,
among other things, from the punishment our sin deserves.
His mercy was
extended to us when we called on His Name and believed in the work He did.
His mercy and His love
is extended to all.
But not all receive it.
God takes no delight
in anyone who dies in their sin.
He created each and
every one of us and His plan for each and every one of us is good.
His plans for Pharaoh
of Egypt, Judas Iscariot and Adolf Hitler were good.
They each, as
countless others have done, made choices contrary to the plan and grace of God
for their lives.
We often accept the
super natural love of God to our own lives but when it comes to others we want
to have the strings and conditions that ‘natural ‘ love applies brought to bear.
They are loved if…
They are loved when…
They are loved but…
All the qualifiers
apply to others but not to us.
All the disclaimers, all the fine print is for others.
Yet God, who is love,
does not place those qualifiers there.
He simply gives us
the choice to receive or accept what He has extended to us.
Sometimes the best
way to begin to remind ourselves of the great wonder of His supernatural love
is to remember that each and every one of us, you and me, were saved by His marvelous
grace without merit or any part in having earned it.
That is His wonderful
supernatural love.
