“Do you not know that
your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have
received from God? You are not your own;”
I Corinthians 6:19
Recently we had a
letter returned to us at our home and it was labeled:
Return to Sender –
Unable to Deliver
The address we had
sent the letter to was either incorrect as written or did not exist.
Yesterday, as we
continued our series on thoughts, I spoke of a delivery of garbage being
brought to your house.
I suppose when the
delivery man rang your doorbell you would have a few options.
You could refuse
outright to accept the garbage.
You could have
accepted it, in the hopes that on further examination the bag of garbage
actually held a treasure hidden somewhere.
Finally I suppose you
could have believed the old adage – not in scripture by the way – that “one
mans’ trash is another mans’ treasure”.
When it comes to
thoughts though, as we grow in our discernment of the sources of a thought, and
we correctly identify one as not coming from God or as an evil, wrong thought
we ought to refuse delivery!
Don’t allow it in your
head so to speak.
Too often, as
believers, we choose to bring the garbage in and rifle through it.
We sift through the
bag of garbage thoughts convinced that there is value in what we are doing.
Sometimes we even
enjoy the mess.
But a
simple question – what good comes from receiving garbage into your home?
More precisely – What
good comes from receiving ungodly thoughts into the temple of the living God –
whose temple you are?
You know its garbage
so refuse the delivery!
Return it to the
sender unopened.
Tell them the ‘old
man’ doesn’t live here anymore!
