“I delight
greatly in the Lord;
my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of
salvation
and arrayed
me in a robe of his righteousness,
as a bridegroom
adorns his head like a priest,
and as a bride adorns herself with her
jewels.”
Isaiah 61:10
It’s pretty
popular nowadays to recognize a wedding day as the brides’ special day.
Even comics make
jokes about the bride half-wishing the groom didn’t have to be there so as to
not steal some of her spotlight.
I certainly
recognize that there is some humor to be found in all of the pre-wedding
planning but it also makes an interesting comparison to those who would claim
to have or be ‘church’. Too often it’s like a wedding void of a couple.
The last time I
checked ‘couple’ still meant “two”.
They take the
grooms name but, if He is allowed in the building, it’s as if He is told to
“Sit down and be
quiet”.
God doesn’t play
second fiddle well.
When it comes to
His bride, the church, He is intimately involved in every aspect of her
preparation.
As a matter of
fact, He has prepared the garments she will wear!
They are “…garments
of salvation…” and a “…robe of his righteousness…”
The bride who
delights greatly in her groom and rejoices in him will have no difficulty in
sharing that special day with him.
He will be
intimately involved in every detail.
Don’t prepare a
wedding but tell the groom to get out.
Don’t call
yourself a church and ask God to leave the building.
He will and you
won’t be!
