“…Though
it cost all you have, get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:7b
“Get rich quick”
schemes are everywhere.
Open your e-mail
account and the offers are too good to be true (because they are!).
Go out to the snail-mailbox
today and an envelope is emblazoned with the warning that waiting will diminish
your opportunity to earn millions!
Lawyers get in
on the act too.
Have you
suffered from exposure to some product in your work career?
Is the IRS, Workers
Comp or that guy who plowed into you trying to get away with something?
Just call
555-5555 and they promise to take away all your problems so you can spend the
rest of your days in luxurious comfort.
It is easy for
our flesh to gravitate to something for nothing, isn’t it?
But the Bible
has the opposite advice (go figure?) when it comes to understanding.
It may not be ‘free’
and it is certainly not cheap but we are told, though it cost you all you have,
it is very much worth getting.
That, in itself,
is enough to dissuade most.
After all, if a “Dollar
and a dream” is all it takes to win the lottery,
why should I pay
such a high price to get understanding.
Well, to answer
that question, listen to these dividends –
Blessed are
those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
for she
is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
She is
more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long
life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her
ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
She is
a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.
Proverbs 3:13-18
Enough said?
Enough said!
