“Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in
parables;
he did not say anything to them without using a
parable.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter
things hidden since the creation of the world.”
Matthew 13:34-35
“There’s gold in them thar hills!”
Not exactly good grammar, but words like that were
spoken with anxious anticipation over and over as the gold rush to the hills of
California and later Alaska had begun.
People often risked life and limb and all of their earthly
possessions to stake their claim and be part of the great stampede westward to
the precious metal.
Imagine for a moment the words spoken by Jesus in
parables.
We are told that there were, wrapped up in those
parables, things hidden since the creation of the world.
Not cute little sayings best suited to a Hallmark card
but “...things hidden...”
Hidden to who?
I would suggest they were hidden to the crowds that
Jesus spoke to.
Not hidden for all eternity and not hidden to all
eyes.
Just hidden to those who would not pursue those “...things
hidden...” because they had 'better things' to do.
Are you prepared, like the gold rush people of yesteryear,
to pursue the One who reveals secrets?
We do not blurt out all we hold dear to perfect
strangers.
It is to the ones we love, the hidden things become
known.
You don’t have to pursue the ‘things hidden’.
Instead pursue the one who reveals them to those He
loves.
