“No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior
escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite
all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those
who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them
from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help
and our shield.”
Psalm 33: 16-20
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed
within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my
God.”
Psalm 42:5
“To them God has chosen to make known among the
Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope
of glory.”
Colossians 1:27
But enough about vain hope!
Verse 18 of Psalm 33 declares that when our hope is
directed to God it is rewarded and fruitful.
As a matter of fact it tells us how.
It says:
Hope
directed to God delivers from death.
Hope
directed to God keeps us alive in famine and I would suggest it can keep us alive in both
natural and spiritual famine.
When we place our hope in
Him, God becomes our help and shield.
Listen to how Psalm 20, verses 6-8 expresses the same
thought:
“Now I know
that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the
saving power of his right hand.
Some trust in
chariots and some in horses,
but we
trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
We need to be prepared for those whose only hope is in
some or all of those vain hopes and who will find their hope dashed because it
was not placed in God. We need the endurance hope brings and the message of a
hope that does not fail. That hope has to be more than words – we know they
have heard ‘words of hope’ but we need to introduce them to the
Author of Hope AND carry that hope in us.
Christ
in you – the hope of glory!!!
