“In
the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a
throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were
seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with
two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were
calling to one another:
“Holy, holy,
holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of
their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with
smoke.
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For
I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my
eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
Then one of the
seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs
from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched
your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Then I heard the voice of the Lord
saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said,
“Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah 6:1-8
“And I said; “Here
am I. Send me!”
An awful lot
happened in verses one through seven in order for
Isaiah to speak
the words he did in verse eight.
The first thing
that happened was that King Uzziah died.
Why is that
relevant?
What does it matter?
I believe the
next phrase helps to answer those two questions.
“…I saw the
Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne.”
The king had
obscured Isaiah’s vision of the King!
When Uzziah (the
king) died Isaiah was able to see the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Sometimes we so
honor and exalt men that we miss the Lord.
Isaiah would be
a Prophet of God.
He would be a
messenger of God.
But step one of
his preparation was to see the Lord, high and exalted.
Has the Lord
revealed Himself to you?
Is He the high
and exalted one in your life?
Or; is there a
king Uzziah?
Is there a
person in your life who stands between you and God?
Is there someone
who blocks the revelation?
Step one of your
journey with God is when you receive the revelation of the Lord as the only
high and exalted one!
Isaiah was able
to speak the words recorded in verse eight because he had first received the
revelation recorded in verse one.
But there are
more steps in his, and our, journey to “Here am I. Send me!”
Let’s discover
them together this week!
