“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw
the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe
filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings
they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they
were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole
earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of
their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and
the temple was
filled with smoke.
“Woe to me!” I
cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people
of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
Then one of the
seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs
from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched
your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Then I heard the
voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said,
“Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah 6:1-8
Isaiah had a
glimpse into the Throne Room of God.
Step two of his
journey unfolded the holiness of God before him.
The Seraphim
proclaimed what Isaiah was seeing – that God is holy!
You and I may say that God is holy, we can even agree
when others say He is holy, but our
individual journeys will, at some point, take us face-to-face with Gods’ holiness.
It is not
something that God puts on and takes off like a garment.
It is the
essence of who God is.
Holy is the Lord!
Moses experienced
it at the burning bush.
John experienced
at the Isle of Patmos.
Isaiah became painfully
aware of his own uncleanness before a holy God.
There was no one
holy as the Lord.
Isaiah was
ruined – what could he do?
How could this
unholy man stand before a holy God?
This was the dilemma
he faced.
How could he
ever journey with this holy God?
How could he do
what he was called to do?
How can we?
One thing is
certain.
There is nothing
we can do – the solution must come from God.
Tomorrow, let’s
look together at step three of our journey with God.
Let’s look at
His way!
