“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant,
that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that
he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the
first covenant.”
I John 2:2
Have you ever had to pay a ransom?
I hope not!
We most often associate a ransom with someone having
been kidnapped.
Not a very pleasant thing to have happen to someone we
love, is it?
But that is exactly what Jesus did for us when he
suffered and died on the cross for you and me.
No, He didn’t say – You pay the price for you own
freedom.
As a matter of fact scripture declares clearly to us
that while we were still sinners Christ died for us and gave His life as a
ransom for many.
How many?
Whosoever will, that’s how many.
Whoever will accept Him and His sacrifice.
The truth is you cannot pay your own ransom.
You were born in sin and the ransom required a sinless
sacrifice.
That is what Jesus did for you!
In the words of the old hymn –
“Halleluiah, What a Savior!”
