“The unfolding of
your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”
Psalm 119:130
I love the way this
verse is phrased.
The “…unfolding of
your words…” implies orderliness.
God’s word is not ‘slapped
together’ haphazardly.
There is intention
and purpose behind every word.
Jesus spoke of this
order, purpose and intention when he said:
“For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not
the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear
from the Law until everything is accomplished.”,
Matthew 5:18
Men, inspired by the
Holy Spirit, made those “…strokes of a pen…”
that Jesus spoke of.
God’s word is ‘put
together’ in such a way that it can be ‘unfolded’, i.e. studied, meditated on
and applied in our lives.
It implies searching
out His word in the way that you might study a treasure map.
But the rewards of
His ‘treasure map’ are far greater than silver and gold.
His word gives light
and understanding.
It answers the
important questions of:
“Why am I here?”
“What is my purpose?”
“What is life all about?”
God’s word addresses the
past, the present and the future for humanity.
But, as you unfold it,
it also addresses your past, present
and future.
Some people look to
the stars for these answers, some look to their ancestors and some look to
achievement, education or culture.
But none of those can
compare to what God has hidden in His word for the man or woman willing to unfold it.
Is that you?
