“You are my friends
if you do what I command.”
John 15:14
“If you’re my friend,
you’ll do this for me!”
Have you ever had
your arm (and your will) twisted by someone holding that statement over your
head?
You do something
foolish that you would never have done had the challenge not been presented in
the way it was.
Some might read the
quote from Jesus above and think to themselves:
“Isn’t He doing the
same thing?”
“Isn’t that
manipulation or guilt that Jesus is trying to use”
To that I can
confidently answer a resounding NO!
You see the one who
commands us is holy, righteous, just and perfect.
His commands are
good, right and true.
We need never feel
abused or misused when we obey the commands of God.
What we will ‘feel’ and know is the love and
friendship of God.
A true friend is one
who looks to the best interests of their friend.
No one has your back like God.
His commands are for
your benefit.
Sometimes – in the
moment – that might not seem true.
But God’s perspective
is so much greater than ours is.
His commands are
purposeful and beneficial.
…And the icing on the
cake?
The one who keeps His
commands has friends in high places!
