“When Jesus had called
the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure
diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and
to heal the sick. He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no
staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. Whatever house you enter,
stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, leave their
town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” So they set
out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing
people everywhere.”
Luke 9:1-6
There was a call.
There was an
impartation.
There was a sending
out.
But there were also specific
instructions.
Sometimes we “go”
after the call is received missing the impartation, the sending forth and the specific
instructions.
How unwise and
dangerous is that?
What Jesus imparted
to them was power and authority.
One can only imagine
the results of trying to do what God has called you to do without having His
power and authority to do it.
Can you say “Failure!”
The instructions He
gave were specific and limited.
There were things
they were not to take that one would normally expect to take when setting out
on a “mission.”
There were also
instructions on how to respond when facing difficulties (unwelcoming towns).
God’s power and
provision would be manifested not only through
them but also to them as they
obeyed His instructions!
Have you been called?
Then don’t set out
without the impartation and the instruction God wants to give you.
The scriptures are
filled with examples of those called by God to a specific task but also given
the instructions necessary to fulfill that call.
Have you been called?
If so, has He
imparted His power and authority to you for your assignment?
Are you listening for His specific instructions
before setting out?
