“For the man who was miraculously healed was over
forty years old.”
Acts 4:22
Perhaps an overlooked aspect of the healing of the
lame man at the Gate Beautiful is found in verse 22 above.
Besides all the other things that could be pointed out
about his age and the significance of this miracle, you have to consider that
in this large city of Jerusalem there was forty
years’ worth of witnesses to his condition.
In that span of forty years it is likely that
thousands of people saw him
(and some of them on a daily or at least frequent
basis)
They eyewitness accounts would certainly reinforce the
miraculous work that was accomplished. Even the leaders that were coming
against Peter and John testified in verse 16: “...what are we going to do with
these men?” they asked. “Everybody living in Jerusalem knows they have done an
outstanding miracle, and we cannot deny it.”
Peter and John had obeyed God and even their enemies
couldn’t deny it!
They testified to the miraculous evidence of the
Apostles obedience and to the power of the Name that Peter and John had proclaimed!
Are
you living a life in the power that cannot be denied?
