No Social Distancing With God

“Come near to God and he will come near to you...”

James 4:8a

We are all doing our duty and keeping one another at arm’s length.

Social distancing is the buzz word that burst on the scene

just a few short weeks ago.

We know what it means and why it is important.

But here’s some good news for us – there is no social distancing with God.

Not only does He promise to never leave or forsake us but He also assures us that when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.

What a wonderful promise to hold onto!

As a matter of fact, perhaps the most contagious thing

you can catch from God is His love!

And trust me – there is absolutely no reason not to spread that around to as many people as possible.

Please understand that I am not making light of what we are facing but I want to emphasize to each and every one who reads this that God is near and He loves us no matter the difficulties we are facing.

We you draw near to Him today.

Be embraced in His love and let others feel that embrace as well.

Matthew West sings these words in his song titled: "The God Who Stays"

"You're the one who runs in my direction when the whole world walks away."

Remember that today as you are social distancing yourself from others.

In These ‘Certain’ Times

“Trust in him at all times, you people;

pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Psalm 62:8

Shouldn’t the title be: ‘In Theses Uncertain Times’ instead?

After all that is the more common phrase.

Yes, it is, but these are uncommon times.

Yet they are not times that have caught God unaware.

It is so very easy to be fearful and anxious about the times we find ourselves in.

Especially if we are on a steady diet of news updates.

We are transfixed by the numbers of corona virus cases.

But instead of those numbers, how about being transfixed by these numbers –

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,

So the next time you are listening to the news, you hear some numbers and are tempted to fear – meditate on the ‘numbers’ I have posted above and place your hope and your trust in the one who

is able to keep you safe in these certain times!
