“Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an
obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live
according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the
misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
Romans 8:12-13
“...we have an obligation...”
The Apostle Paul writes these words to believers, not
to the unsaved.
We know that God saves us through the shed blood of
His Son but we still, beyond that work of grace, have an obligation to,
“...by the Spirit...put to death the misdeeds of the
body...”
It is poor theology that teaches that once we are
saved all is done and we need do no more.
Think of salvation as the initial entrance into the
Kingdom of God.
However, once in the Kingdom, we are not expected to
live a life ruled by our old nature but one ruled by the Spirit of God who is
the King of the Kingdom!
