“For the foolishness
of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than
human strength.
“Brothers and
sisters, think of what you were when you were called.
Not many of you were
wise by human standards; not many were influential;
not many were of
noble birth.
But God chose the foolish
things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak
things of the world to shame the strong.”
I Corinthians I:25-27
It goes against human
reasoning, doesn’t it?
You are in trouble so
you try to surround yourself with the strong.
You are lacking
persuasiveness so it would stand to reason that you align yourself with men and
woman of influence.
You desire to be wise
so your mentors are the best and the brightest of the world.
But when it comes to
the Kingdom of God human standards do not cut it.
Those who are strong,
influential and wise in their own eyes do not impress God.
They will bring you
down and not lift you up.
The call of God is to
those who are not wise, influential or of noble birth.
He then fills them
with His wisdom.
He makes them to be
influential and, of course, there is no more noble birth we can have than being
born again into God’s family.
These are not works
of the flesh but are grace works of the Holy Spirit.
So, yes, if you need
wisdom seek out those who have received it from above and not those whose only
wisdom comes from an Ivy League sheepskin.
Need strength?
Come alongside those
wise enough to know their strength comes from Him and apart from Him they are
the proverbial 98 pound weakling in the things of God.
If they find their strength
in Christ alone then don’t be afraid to count yourself…
…in the company of
the weak!
