“This is to my
Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing
yourselves to be my disciples.”
John 15:8
Do you think
first words are important?
Most every
parent will recall fondly the first words spoken by their infant children
(once you get
past dada and mama, that is)
For my son Aaron
it was the word “butterfly” and for daughter Amanda it was “soft”.
Parents, we remember
those things don’t we?
I also remember
the summer of 1969 when I was 14 years old and Neil Armstrong was going to be
the first man walking on the moon. There were all kinds of speculation about
what the first words would be that he would utter standing on the surface of
the moon.
We put weight or
value on those ‘first’ words.
What do you
suppose the first words were that God spoke to man?
Do you think
they might have some value or worth?
Absolutely yes,
so lets’ take a look at them.
The first
command spoken to man was to be fruitful!!!!
Genesis 1:28
“God blessed them and said to them, be
fruitful and increase in number…”
I don’t believe
God was simply commanding them to reproduce after the flesh but rather to also
reproduce His image in the earth.
God created man
to fellowship with Him and so the command to be fruitful was also Gods’ desire
to fellowship with those created in His image, His “personality” if you will….
We are to bear
fruit because God commands us to.
A Christian
without fruit is like a zebra minus the stripes!
Not only does it
not make sense, it causes people to wonder what we really are.
Don’t keep
people guessing – let them know by your fruit who you are.
