“The Spirit of
the Lord is on me, because he
has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor. He has
sent me to proclaim freedom
for the
prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 4:18-19
Why is the
Spirit of the Lord on you?
Is it on you to anoint
you to accomplish His plans for the Kingdom of God?
Is it on you to
bring conviction for sins in your life?
Is it on you to guide
you into all truth and to point you to Jesus Christ?
Yes, yes and
yes.
Too often we treat
the Spirit of God as if He were given as a personal butler or a genie.
Jesus, in the
verses we read above, never said the Holy Spirit was on Him to make Him
comfortable in His ‘own skin’.
He didn’t say He
was anointed to feel all tingly and ‘special’.
Look closely at
why He was anointed – it was to minister to others.
The word ‘proclaim’
is actually used three times.
Proclaim certainly
means to declare; i.e. speak something out, but it has a second meaning of
giving outward indication or showing.
It is not just
what our mouth expresses but also what our lives exhibit.
So we can expect
three outcomes when the Spirit of the Lord is on us to anoint us.
They are:
My life will
proclaim (exhibit) the good news of the Gospel.
My life will
proclaim (exhibit) freedom to those held in bondage.
My life will proclaim (exhibit) the year of
the Lord’s favor.
Maybe a great
reminder for the start of each day is to consider this –
The Spirit of
the Lord is on me because…
Then ask the
Holy Spirit to help you fulfill His ‘because’ plans throughout your day!
