“Do not offer
any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer
yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer
every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.”
Ephesians
1:18-20
There is a
popular advertising campaign that shows a bunny marching around beating a drum
and never running out of power.
In a nod to the
success of that campaign people who seem to have unlimited energy are often
called the ‘Energizer Bunny’!
Well, the batteries
in the bunny don’t really offer unlimited energy.
Imagine for a
minute if you had a power source just like a battery pack on your back.
What would power
you?
Have you ever
known someone powered by a desire for sex?
How about the power
of money?
That energizes
many people.
What powers a philanthropist
or a politician?
Are we all
empowered by the same things?
Well, the one
word answer to that question is “No!”
As believers our
power, our motivation ought to come from God.
He is the source
of power that moves upon us and directs our lives.
Does that mean
we never struggle with greed, jealousy, or hundreds of other things competing
to power and propel us?
Of course not!
As long as we live in these bodies there is a
battle being waged in us between the power of God and all other things that
work to draw us away from God as our power source.
Make no mistake though;
God’s power is unlimited and is infinitely greater than all of those other
sources of power put together.
It doesn’t come
down to God versus them so much as it comes down to a choice you must make over
and over again in your life.
Which source of power
will you yield yourself to?
Ultimately, it
is never God’s power that is in question.
Rather, to whom
will I surrender and what power will I allow to work in me?
