“Jesus said to her, “I
am the resurrection and the life.
The
one who believes in me will live, even though they die;”
John 11:25
It’s an easy
thing to make a claim.
Not always as
easy to back it up.
Jesus ‘claimed’ “I am the resurrection and the life.”
Think about it
though -
It was a claim
that can only be fulfilled after He died!
In other words –
in order to prove His claim, He would have to die.
But Jesus goes one
further.
He tells Martha
that those who believe in Him will live, even if they die.
We know she was
overcome with grief at the death of her brother Lazarus and now Jesus was
speaking to her in riddles!
His riddle was
answered for her a few moments later when Jesus raised her brother from the dead.
Jesus’ statement
was even clearer to her that first Easter morning when He Himself was no longer
held by death or the grave.
The words spoken
were more than just the effort of the Lord to bring her comfort.
She had an up-close-and-personal
experience to the eternal truth of those words.
But the message,
the power, of Easter wasn’t meant just for Mary, Martha, Lazarus and the other
1st Century saints.
It is to all
believers.
It is a truth
spoken through the age to you and me.
Jesus made a
claim.
He backed up
that claim.
Do you believe
His words?
“I am the resurrection and the life.
The
one who believes in me will live, even
though they die.”
