Division is Divisive

“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

I Corinthians 1:10

I remember math class way back in grammar school.

I could add, subtract and multiply without difficulty.

But long division was just tough for some reason.

Division has come to mean something quite different in my adult life.

It is still a difficult thing to deal with though!

A church, a family, a business, a nation cannot survive in continued division.

Having an opinion (don’t we all) is not necessarily wrong.

Divisiveness always is!

The proud will always seek to speak their opinion which often leads to arguing, fights and division.

Division will always destroy the bond of unity we seek in the church.

When you divide something the result is always smaller than what you started with.

Think about that for a moment.

In advancing the Kingdom of God we desire to see it grow and enlarge in the earth.

Divisiveness works against that.

Think about how and when you share your opinion.

Will it build up your listeners or bring them revelation?

If not, maybe saying nothing is best.

“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;

keep watch over the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3

Those are words worth taking to heart in these contentious times.
