What does the resurrection of Christ mean?
No, I don’t mean – Can you simply define the word resurrection?
But if you had to put it into your own words,
what would you say the resurrection accomplished?
Asked another way – as it was posed to us this week –
Jesus was raised from the dead so
that_____________________________.
How would you fill in the blank?
Let’s let scripture help us answer it.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation
has come:
The old has
gone, the new is here!”
II Corinthians 5:17
The resurrection of Jesus Christ has given us a new
identity.
The old has passed away and the new has come.
That’s right, the term passed away means just what you think; dead to the old and alive to
the new.
You and me are raised up with Christ into that new
life.
The cross accomplished so much more than we can
imagine – but so too did Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.
There was a now famous sermon preached many years ago
along these lines –
It’s Friday but Sundays coming!
Thank God for the cross and the God for the empty tomb
too!
