“Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters,
whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your
faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity,
and inner peace].”
James 1:2-3 (Amplified)
So much is contained in these two short verses.
I have used the Amplified version to help us better
understand the intent.
However, I have to be honest with you – this is one of
those passages that we often read and wish secretly it wasn’t in the book!
Trials = Joy is an equation that just doesn’t add up
for most of us.
And to top it off, when we are in a trial some well-meaning
brother or sister comes along and quotes these verses and it’s like a poke in
the eye.
“Thanks for the encouragement!” we think to ourselves.
But take a second look at the end results – spiritual maturity
and inner peace.
Who would refuse that?
The truth is – many do.
Trials are a turning point.
For some, it turns them away from God while others
face the same trial and turn to God.
What trials might you be in the midst of?
What direction are they turning you?
Let me encourage you with this –
“But whenever
anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.”
II Corinthians 3:16
As you turn to Him, even the purposes in the trials
you are enduring become clear.
Will you turn to Him?
