We go to great lengths to guard the
important things in our life. We buy all
kinds of insurance to guard against personal hardships, such as unexpected
death, automobile accidents, and damage to our homes.
We purchase safes or safety deposit
boxes to keep our valuables safe. We
install locks, deadbolts, and buy home security systems to guard our loved ones
from harm.
I’m not knocking any of these. They serve a purpose, and unfortunately, are
often necessary in the world we live in.
But, there is something even more
valuable in our lives that we often neglect to guard against theft and
deception – the word of God! In Luke 11:28, Jesus says “Even
more blessed are those who hear God’s Word and guard it with their lives!”
But, how do we guard the word of
God? Well, one way scripture teaches is
by not only being hearers of the word, but also doers. James 1:22 says “Do
not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
In the “doing” we guard against deception.
Stand
guard over the word of God in your life by continually filling your mind with
it and then applying it to your life.
