“In Spite of” Peace

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

You might say there are two kinds of believers in the world; those who have overcome the world and those overcome by the world.
Which one are you?
If you are like me and if you are honest then you are probably both!
Jesus tells us that in this world we will have trouble.
That was not a maybe He used, not even a might, He said you will!
Sometimes you don’t even have to go looking for it; it just seems to find you.
So what do you do when trouble has found you?
Jesus gave you the answer when He said: “…take heart.”
I like the way the Amplified version translates those two words.
It says: “take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted.”
It’s even more amazing when you stop to think that Jesus didn’t utter these words on His way up to the Father after the resurrection.
He spoke them before the scourging, before all His disciples ran away in fear, before the crucifixion.
You see He was courageous, confident, certain and undaunted as He faced what lay ahead for Him.
He was confident as an overcomer even before some of the worse trouble He would face had even come to pass.
Such was His peace in placing His life into His Father’s hands.
That’s the kind of peace He wants us to have.
A peace such that, even when we know the road ahead may be filled with trouble, we do not doubt, we do not fear, we trust and we move forward believing the Father has our best in mind.
Do you have that peace from God?
That’s peace in spite of whatever trouble the world may throw at you.
You might call it “in Spite of” peace.
