“Now Sarai,
Abram’s wife, had borne him no children...”
Genesis 16:1a
Our past tries to creep
ever so ominously into our present.
And when we dwell
on our past mistakes, missteps and failures,
we can rob ourselves
of a future promise.
Fortunately for
us, God is bigger than our past.
Sarah and Abraham
found that out.
Her empty womb
mocked her and called to her from her past so much so that it was not easy to believe
the promise of God to give them a child.
Maybe your past
has tried to tell you something other than the future blessings God has
promised you.
You must resist
the urge to question the past.
Instead, hold fast to the promise of God, even
when you don’t see how it could possibly be.
God’s promise to
Abraham and Sarah came to pass.
Probably not on a
timeline they would have chosen.
We must not
surrender the fulfillment of a future promise by
trusting in the experiences
of days gone by.
Take a lesson from
Abraham:
“He staggered not
at the promise of God through unbelief;
but was strong in
faith, giving glory to God;
And being fully
persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
Romans 4:20-21
