The Influence of Friends

“As iron sharpens iron,

    so one person sharpens another.”

Proverbs 27:17

For good or for bad – friends influence you.

An old proverb – not in scripture but true just the same – says:

“Show me with whom you walk and I will show you who you are.”

Talk about a revelation!

The scripture from Proverbs above should serve as a warning to us.

Be careful who you hang around with.

Be choosey when it comes to your friends.

Now let’s not get confused.

We should always extend ourselves to be friendly but we need not allow people into that close fellowship with us who are an evil influence.

I should be courteous, respectful and kind to all.

But, I cannot and should not have just anyone as a friend.

If we are told to guard our hearts, it only makes sense that we also are cautious concerning those who can most influence our heart.

Choose wisely!
