Today's blog post is contributed by David Trotta:
Since,
then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where
Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds
on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 31-2)
Although it has taken on different variations and meanings
over the years, the original phrase “anchors aweigh” is a report that the anchors are clear of the sea
bottom and the ship is officially underway.
Anchors on a
ship can be both a help and a hindrance.
An anchor can keep a boat safe in the midst of a storm, but if not
pulled up from the bottom of the sea, an anchor can keep a ship from moving
forward to its destination.
The word “set”
in the above verse means to hold onto something firmly. The apostle Paul encourages us to be heavenly
minded and hold fast to kingdom principles, not worldly philosophies.
Because, if our
hearts and minds are set (or anchored) to worldly things, we will never be able
to move forward in the pathway God has set before us.
The things of
this world will hold us back and keep us from reaching our destination, just like
an anchor stuck in the mire at the bottom of the sea.
Be sure to set
your heart and mind on kingdom things, then you can declare “anchors aweigh” as
you begin to move forward in your destiny as God’s child.
