“Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming,
but who can stand before
jealousy?”
Proverbs 27:4
Certainly one of the greater dangers “hidden from view”
in this verse is that jealousy can be covert.
It can be stealthy, hidden below the surface creating
its havoc and damage.
Anger and fury, on the other hand, are seldom hidden.
Some people are very “out there” when it comes to
their feelings and emotions.
While it may make them more difficult to deal with at
times, their positions are clear!
They are neither hidden nor below the surface.
Jealousy can be less obvious.
It can hide in our hearts undetected but destructive.
It can impact our lives and the lives of those around
us, and that, without an apparent cause.
Perhaps that is why the writer asks:
“...who can stand before jealousy?”
Don’t allow this bitter fruit in your life.
Ask God to replace it with a thankful and contented
heart.
