A New Year, a new beginning

Today's blog post is contributed by Denise Friedman:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Genesis 1:1

We are “in the beginning” of a new year, a year formless and empty.  As we create the pages of this year, let’s take into consideration the two cautions we have been given:  celebrate what matters – the fact that our name is written in heaven, and focus on our relationship with Jesus, not good deeds.

It is so easy to get swept up in the worldly things to celebrate.  As you move forward in your ministry, be careful not to celebrate the acts that you perform or see performed.  Instead, celebrate who you are in Christ.  Instead of forming your year with “good deeds”, consider forming your days by spending time in His presence.  As you bask in His presence and draw nearer to Him, you will see fruit produced as a result of that relationship, not a result of anything you could ever do or imagine.  Enjoy forming this year!
