“The manna stopped the day after they ate this food
from the land;
there was no longer any manna for the Israelites,
but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.”
Joshua 5:12
Imagine eating the same food for nearly 40 years!
Now you might think that after that you would welcome
a change on the plate.
As miraculous as manna had been one could easily understand
that figs, dates, olives and grapes would not be refused.
But I wonder?
Could some have been upset at this new diet?
After all, it wasn’t what they were accustomed too and
they were actually responsible for finding and preparing it.
No more raining food from heaven.
Change can be difficult even for the most adventurous
among us.
We become comfortably attached to our steady diet of
routine.
It might just be that among the Israelites there were
some who genuinely feared what they would now have to do.
The church today is not what it once was.
It is changing and it is God who is bringing about
that change.
Sometimes we resist what He is preparing us for and
causing to happen.
We are content to get up, collect our manna and go
about our routines and traditions.
But too quickly our reliance can be in those routines
and traditions and no in Him.
They fit us like 40 years of manna.
God is saying once again, I AM That I AM.
All that we need can be found in Him.
Let your reliance be in Him.
