“Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy
and my delight.
I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.”
Psalm 43:4
This is how the dictionary defines the word altar:
“a usually raised structure or place on which
sacrifices are offered or incense is burned in worship —often used figuratively
to describe a thing given great or undue precedence or value especially at the
cost of something else”
An altar is a place of sacrifice, a place of surrender,
a place of homage.
What or whom do you place on the altar?
Do you place those things in your life on the altar that
have held more value to you than God?
Or
Do you continue to hold on to them?
It is almost as if we say – “I’ll place God on the
altar in order to hold on to...”
You know what it is.
You alone know those things – or perhaps people – that
are held closer than God.
It’s time to let go of them.
It’s time to place them on the altar and release them
to God.
Having seen your desire, He may return them just as
Isaac was returned to Abraham, or He may take them from you.
Are you prepared to place them on the altar?
Are you prepared to place them in the hands of God?
