“For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so
that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
Temptation can come in many forms.
One way we are all tempted is in the area of performance.
We believe the lie that we have to ‘perform’ for God
to earn His love or salvation.
We were reminded on Sunday that what we ‘do’ doesn’t
qualify us.
What is the greatest miracle you can imagine?
Now suppose God used you to perform it.
Stop and think about this – does He love you greater the
day after that miracle than He did the day before?
Let’s all say it together - “No!”
If we get caught up in the thinking that
“Because I can do these things, I am extra special” we
have been bit by the performance bug.
We believe the scriptures that teach us “...these
signs shall follow...”
But you will not find a passage that declares that God’s
love for you increases when you ‘perform’.
Our ‘doing’ flows out of His love for us and is not a
prerequisite to it.
Allow me a little liberty below –
For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by performance, that none should believe the lies of the enemy.
