John 20:16
There are those who say they believe in God, but their
belief is in some distant, cold force at work in the universe.
In John 20:10-18 Mary encounters Jesus at the tomb.
Because Jesus had not yet ascended to the Father, Mary
does not recognize Him in whatever ‘form’ His physical body had taken.
She actually mistook Him for the gardener.
Then Jesus, the God of the universe, but also Her Lord
and Her friend, called her by name.
Immediately she knew who it was!
God knows each of us by name too.
He calls out to each of us – calling us to Himself and
to a life filled with purpose.
Sometimes we disbelieve the call of His voice, at
other times we discount it as someone or something else.
Most often, though, we are simply too distracted by
our own cares and concerns that we fail to hear His call.
