“I will turn my hand against you;
I will thoroughly purge away
your dross
and remove all your
impurities.
I will restore your leaders as in days of old,
your rulers as at the
beginning.
Afterward you will be called
the City of Righteousness,
the Faithful City.”
Isaiah 1:25-26
As you read the verses above there is an understanding
that when God does a transforming and redeeming work in your life it is a
complete work.
Imagine, for just a moment, what the ‘afterwards’
picture would look like if that refining work were taken out of the hands of
God and left up to you and me.
What a picture that would be!
Fortunately, when we surrender our lives to Him the
work is not left to our hands.
As a matter of fact that same chapter of Isaiah
describes vividly what happens when we are left in charge:
“See how the faithful city has become a
prostitute!
She once was full of justice; righteousness used
to dwell in her—but now murderers!
Your silver has become dross, your choice wine is
diluted with water.
Your rulers are rebels, partners with
thieves; they all love bribes
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come
before them.”
How much better to leave your nation, your city and
your own life in the hands of God rather than the hands of men!
